Step 1: Choose a proxy

Before you get started with unblocking Reddit, you need a reliable proxy that can successfully bypass restrictions and maintain a stable connection. After signing up on Webshare, log in to your account and navigate to the Proxy List page to find the proxies on your account. This list shows the IP address, port, username, and password for each proxy. 

It also includes the country and city through which the proxy routes your internet traffic. We would need these details later, so take note of them.

Step 2: Setup the proxy

Webshare is pretty easy to set up on all major browsers and platforms, including Firefox, Mac, iOS, and Windows. It’s also available as a Google Chrome extension, and since most browsers use the Chrome engine, let’s see how to set up Webshare on this browser

If you have a new Webshare account, navigate to your Dashboard, and scroll down to the Install Chrome Extension section. Click the Add extension for free button to open the Webshare Extension page.

This section is likely not available on older accounts, so an alternative is to visit the Chrome Web Store and search for “Webshare Proxy Extension.” Open the Webshare extension page and click the Add to Chrome button to download and install the extension on your browser.

Google Chrome would automatically activate the extension after installation. However, you can verify this by opening the extension manager and checking that the Webshare Proxy Extension is toggled on.

Step 3: Connect to the proxy

Find the Webshare Proxy Extension on your browser’s extensions bar and click on it. Then, log in to your Webshare account if you aren’t already signed in and select a proxy from the list. 

Each proxy routes your internet traffic through servers in a specific country. That’s why it's best to select a country that allows web traffic between Reddit and your browser, otherwise you’d be unable to connect to the website.

Click Connect to start using the proxy.

After connecting, some proxies require you to sign in with a username and password. You can find the sign-in credentials by clicking the arrow next to the IP address to reveal the Proxy Details.

Step 4: Go to Reddit website

If you’ve followed the previous steps properly, the proxy should be fully set up on your browser and routing web traffic through its servers. The next thing to do is test your connection to Reddit.

Visit the Reddit website and try logging in with your email and password, or directly with your Google or Apple account.

If the proxy is set up correctly, you’d be able to access your Reddit account as usual. Now, you’re free to visit your subreddits, forums, and communities.

If you’re still blocked on Reddit, you can try connecting with another proxy. Remember to choose a proxy from a country that has not banned or restricted Reddit. Also, check that the Webshare Proxy Extension is activated and connected on your browser.

Reddit may sometimes flag your account if your IP address is constantly changing, as is the case when connecting with multiple proxies. Moreover, some proxies share the same IP address with multiple users.

In this situation, you should consider using Webshare’s static residential proxies. These premium proxies give you a dedicated IP address that isn’t shared with any other user. They also use reliable and well-known Internet Service Providers (ISPs) like AT&T, Sprint, and Lumen.

1. Your account or IP address got banned

If you violate Reddit's rules, such as spam, harassment, or excessive bot activity, your account might be banned. Trying to bypass this ban by creating alternate accounts may result in your IP address being banned. Some bans, like shadowbans, are temporary, while others are permanent.

Reddit may also ban your IP address if it finds it suspicious, as is typically the case with untrusted VPNs and proxies. This is why it's best to use a trusted and reliable proxy service like Webshare.

While a proxy can resolve an IP address ban, you may not be able to remove an account ban using a proxy. Instead, you can appeal your ban to Reddit’s support team or the moderator in charge of the subreddit you’re banned from.

2. Network restriction or regional censorship

Some countries have government-imposed restrictions on Reddit due to content regulations. As a result, ISPs in such countries might be blocking reddit due to content filtering policies. They prevent access to Reddit by blocking its domain and the IP addresses of its servers.

Similarly, network administrators of schools, workplaces, and public Wi-Fi may also block Reddit to prevent distractions or save bandwidth.

To get around this restriction, you can use a proxy like Webshare, connect through a VPN, or switch to mobile data where possible.

3. Browser extensions causing issues

Some browser extensions like ad blockers, VPNs, or privacy tools might interfere with Reddit causing connection problems or a broken layout on the website. This issue happens because some extensions block JavaScript or trackers, which Reddit requires for normal functionality.

You can resolve this issue by entering chrome://extension/ in the Chrome address bar to open the extensions manager. Disable all extensions and refresh the Reddit website. Then, enable extensions one by one until you find the culprit.

4. Corrupted cookies or browser cache

Your browser stores cached versions of web pages to load them faster in the future. However, these cached files or cookies can get corrupted, preventing Reddit from loading correctly. As a result, you may experience login issues, missing content, or infinite loading.

To fix this issue on Chrome, type chrome://settings/clearBrowserData in the address bar and hit Enter. Set the Time range to “All time”. Next, select Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files then click Delete data.

5. DNS blocking or filtering

If the Reddit website isn’t loading properly, your Domain Name System (DNS) settings might be causing the issue. Some ISPs block Reddit at the DNS level to enforce content filtering or comply with location-based restrictions.

You can fix this issue by changing your DNS to Google (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4) or Cloudflare (1.1.1.1). However, attempting this fix on your device is not so straightforward since you need to fiddle with advanced network adapter settings.

An easier method is to simply connect to the Reddit website using Webshare’s proxies. The proxy routes your internet traffic through its servers and ISPs, effectively bypassing any DNS block.
